There will never be another "VN with gameplay" like it. They were getting in the way of the gameplay.Īnd then there's the multiple routes, all of which are as far as I'm aware(haven't beaten Isoruku's yet but I've completed the rest) have completely different end-game objectives(even though all of them converge on a dungeon boss fight afaik) which keeps things fresh if you aren't interested in just doing a Kill the Monkey playthrough.

The fact that it is also an unabashed hentai game is something that is often fairly difficult to get around when praising this game to high heavens in polite company, but honestly halfway through my first playthrough I pretty much started skipping through all the hentai scenes.

The fact that it was building on elements of Kichikuou Rance which was made in the mid-90s is gobsmacking to me. Taking the overworld element of a Total War game and creating a completely non-linear SRPG with hundreds of hours of gameplay from it is amazing. I don't know what else to say about it, really. Sengoku Rance is by far one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Next weeks discussion: Upcoming VN Releases & Translations June 6th - Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NOĪs always, thanks for the feedback and direct any questions or suggestions to my reddit inbox or through a comment in this thread. Meet the alternate reality versions of Oda Nobunaga, Uesugi Kenshin, Takeda Shingen, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Mori Motonari, One Eyed Masamune, Hojo Soun, Sakamoto Ryouma, Yamamoto Isoroku, Saint Francis Xavier, and many more famous Japanese historical figures in the world of Rance! Meanwhile, an ancient evil power stirs from its slumber. He and Sill ended up in Japan for a hotspring trip, upsetting the power balance of Japan, and sets the unification of its provinces in motion. Rance, after saving the nation of Zeth from destruction, ran away so he won't have to marry the princess. Sengoku Rance picks up where Rance 6 left off. The story takes place during the 4th Sengoku (warring states) era of Japan, an area of the Rance World which parodies medieval real-world Japan. It is the 15th most popular visual novel on VNDB as of May, 2015.

Sengoku Rance is a visual novel developed by AliceSoft in 2006. Week #48 - Visual Novel Discussion: Sengoku Rance Kowzz here, and welcome to our forty-eighth weekly discussion thread!
